This article is very typical of the stress and strains of buying property and then trying to get planning permission in Italy. Be aware that you can be made to stop work indefinitely and sometimes for years if you do not follow exact instructions! We have seen it happen so many times here in Tuscany. I send my very best wishes to Living in the Langhe x
Italian planning controls: Playing the game
July 12, 2013 by June Finnigan
Thanks for sharing, June, and for thanks for the best wishes too! We were advised to submit two plans in the end, one that we really wanted and one that was completely traditional and contained nothing that could be deemed in any way controversial. Hopefully if they don’t like the first, they will be ok with the second. At this point we’ll be happy with either, though it will be a shame if we don’t get to do it exactly how we want, especially when you see some of the monstrosities that do get permission…

Yes, very wise. We have been in Italy for nine years and after a failed attempt to buy a ruin, are happily renting! However, we know a number of people with horrendous stories to tell who are now very happily renovated and in business, so keep taking those deep breaths and large glasses of local wine! The lifestyle here is wonderful!
