And it is another lovely day.  The sun is shining and it’s warm enough for my man to go outside with his lap-top to work.  The covers have come off the orange trees and our first daffodil is about to burst into this wonderful world.

Well, this week has included my four weekly visit to the hairdresser(parrucchiere).  This is one Italian word that refuses to lodge itself in my overworked brain, so I explain to my coven friends in Bar Italia next door, that I am going for ‘colore’.  Sandra, my loyal and lovely hairdstylist, always asks me if I want ‘solito’ (the usual) and then she goes to mix the colour.  She would love to do my hair in multi-shades of red rather than just one as it goes against her grain not to be artistic and creative.  A little later she will sigh with acceptance when I say I only want ‘liscie’, no this is nothing to do with head lice, it translates to mean straight, however, to a hairstylist it means blow dried naturally.  if you really want to pick up the language and local accent, the hairdresser is the place to go.  The stylists never stop talking no matter how noisy the dryers.

Yesterday morning, I met my lovely Bavarian friend for coffee.  She has the gift of speaking both English and Italian despite her first language being German.  If I take a female friend for coffee at Fiano, I am always asked if she is my daughter!  How many daughters am I supposed to have and do I look that old?  On the subject of daughters, I do have one, a very talented Garden Designer.

Well, the new Papa (Pope) seems to be very busy telling all his followers that the new church will be a poor one dedicated to helping the needy.  Whilst the non-government will remain rich dedicated to helping those not in need.

On a lighter note, Italian Rugby is on the rise, finishing fourth in the Six Nations.  This is spurring our grandson (age 12) on to greater things and he is playing for Siena under 15’s this afternoon.

Did I mention my book last Saturday?  My man has been passing my author card to all and sundry on his travels to London and back.  I’ve also been proactive in the local village of Fiano and Certaldo, our nearest town.  In case you need the link, here it is again and do let me know if you have enjoyed the read and spread the word, I need your support!

Salute, and have a great week. x

Ciao Ragazzi

Here in my eirie, I am looking down on a beautiful yellow Mimosa tree in full blossom and heralding the arrival of spring in about two weeks time.  We look forward to sack-trucking the potted lemon and kumquat trees out of the greenhouse and onto the terraces at the beginning of April.  Below our garden is a row of orange trees, promising to provide us with a wonderful supply of fruit juice.  Throughout the winter, we have been able to pick tiny oranges that we slice and plunge into our daily aperitivo.

Well, what a gay week it’s been.  Sorry but I like the word gay, that is the original meaning of being happy and carefree until it was adopted by a certain group of people who will not be too thrilled with the new Pope.  Pope Francis has neither impressed or disappointed our Tuscan friends.  For once they have had little to say and have been walking around with shrugged shoulders.  The only thing in his favour is that he is a football (calcio) fan which appeals to 95% of the male Italian population.

My man, son-in-law and grandson are off to Roma again today to watch Italy play Ireland in their final match of the Rugby Six Nations.  So I have had to make my own coffee (no car) which is not a patch on the espresso at our favourite bar/alimentare in Fiano.  Still, my beautiful daughter and granddaughter are taking me to lunch today at Osteria Montalbino, which specialises in fungi.  Yum!

Last sunday, my man and I went to Montespertoli for an aperitivo before lunch (Pranzo).  This is tradition for us, but not if the weather is bad.  Simone in Bar Fiorentino makes our cocktail and we take it into the main piazza to watch the world go by.  At midday (mezzogiorno) the church spills out and we watch the faithful stroll by in their various degrees of finery.  The Piazza is a proper one; large and planted with trees, shrubs, lawns and pathways.  Children rush around on roller boots, scooters and bikes or simply run.  By 1pm it is virtually empty as everyone disappears for Sunday lunch; just a few tourists wandering around thinking they are in a ghost town!

have you read my novel?  I would love to hear from you and if you liked it, perhaps you could write a review on Amazon and spread the word through your social networks!  here is the link again:

Thank you for listening and – Ci vediamo la prossimo Sabato x

Buon Giorno Ragazzi

Yet another beautiful morning in Tuscany and the sun is warm enough to enjoy an aperitivo on our terrace.  Image

This last week has reminded me of the many reasons for being here.  Great food, wine, music and the language.

Let’s talk first about the language.  To the English speaking world Italian is a wonderful sing-song and romantic language.  We moved to Italy precisely because of that and the desire to be able to speak and understand it.  There is also the funny side of trying to hold an intelligent conversation and one instant that caught me out was on the subject of horses.  We had two friends visiting for drinks on horseback and as they needed to tie them up in the olive grove below us, I thought it best to let our neighbours know.  So I told them that two friends were arriving on horses and that they would be tied to one of their trees for a couple of hours.  They roared with laughter and said that was fine.  I told our visiting Italian friends about this and they also rolled about laughing!  It seemed our neighbours had been told that two friends were arriving on cabbages!  It’s all in the pronunciation you see; cabbage (cavolo) and horse (cavallo), I think I will always have a problem with this one!

Then there is the music.  These hills are alive with the sound of music, particularly throughout the spring and summer months.  Rock, Jazz, classical and opera.  During the winter months you can go to local concerts inside and last night we went to Stefano Bartalesi’s concert at Teatro Communale San Miniato.  He is a hugely talented musician and has just released a cd with his own amazing tracks and songs.  I am very lucky to have him front my band, The Rock Chick Band, once a year as lead guitarist.

Well, great food & wine.  What else is there to say but fantastico.  The region is flush with ristorante (restuarants) of every type and you will not fail to find one to suit your taste.  Today, the weather is promising to be warm enough to have lunch in the garden, so out with the seasonal vegetables, cheeses and pane (bread).

See you next saturday.  Salute June x

This morning I look down from our hilltop to a frozen landscape of valleys filled with freezing fog that look just like lakes.  A different kind of beauty and a little awe inspiring.  Image

My man set out at seven o’clock this morning to collect the grandson and son-in-law on the way to Siena.  There they will pick up the coach to take them to Roma to watch Italy beat Wales at rugby.  I hope I’m right about it being Wales!  Last Saturday my man drove across to our wine supplier across the valley below us.  There Claudio fills our empty bottles and my man puts in the corks with a special punching machine.  It’s a nice man thing, and he comes back feeling rather pleased with himself.  The Chianti is delicious and organic as it has not yet gone through the processing bit.  Mmmm, I fancy a glass now but it is only 9am, so I will wait a bit!  Claudio exports his wine world wide and you should visit his website at http://www.corbinelli.it.

I am currently playing very loud rock music as I have finalized the repertoire for my next concert in June.  It’s good to brainwash myself with the same music (25 tracks) whilst I am writing.  If you did not get an invite last year and would like to come this year, send me your email address!

Back at the local cafe bar; I no longer have to carry my own coffee to my table because I am a famous author.  No, no Juni they say, (Italians cannot say June) we will bring your espresso fix over.  The Italian for June is Giugno.  Now the Italians find this a little odd because it is masculine and I have to explain that June in Inglese (English) is feminine.

Well, I must crack on with ‘The Bolivian Connection’ which is the follow on novel to ‘My Father, The Assassin’.  My heroine, Joanna, is currently organising herself for a trip to Bolivia for the reading of her deceased father’s will.  Now I know what’s ahead of her, but she doesn’t.  It will be yet another thrilling adventure and I will be with her all the way!

Have a good week and see you next Saturday, Salute June xx

Ciao Ragazzi

Well, it seems I am famous at last.  I know this because Lina the owner of our local cafe bar in Fiano has told me so.  Also, local people are stopping me and saying ‘gosh, I did not know your were a famous author!’ (in Italian of course) and I say yes, here is my card you can buy the book on Amazon you know! Is it in Italian they ask and I say that it will be in the future, but tell your English speaking friends who can buy it and pass the word around!

An occasional visitor from Florence approached me and took my card.  He speaks good English and wanted to tell me that he grew up in an appartamento under the one once occupied by Elizabeth Barret Browning.  When he was there, an English writer called Margaret Nabb lived upstairs and he liked her a lot, but she’s dead now.  He went off to download ‘My Father, The Assassin’ on Kindle and to ‘like’ it on his social networks!  All this and just whilst I was having the usual espresso fix with my man.

Meanwhile a lovely American writer is doing an article about me, my book and The Rock Chick Band and hopes to sell it to a certain well known in-flight magazine!  My man will be dropping my new printed cards on aeroplane and train seats as he travels across Europe, which is bound to be effective.  I read a few days ago that another author sold millions of books this way.  I have just checked how many visitors I have had to my blog over the last seven days and can you believe it….. 655!  Wow!  If you are reading this, thank you for doing so, however, please do leave me a message.  Salute June x

I am delighted to tell you that Harry Honda, my lovely C-RV, is back on the road after languishing under the wisteria pergola for over two months!  Those of you who have followed my facebook page will know  that I have been pulling my hair out trying to locate an alternator which is a rare thing indeed!  I had written direct to Honda, to various ex-pat sites and to Jeremy Clarkson trying to resolve this.  I want to thank everyone, including complete strangers who have sent advice and support.  The Alternator below, finally came from Japan, via Brussels, via Swindon, via Chiswick in London to Tuscany!

We took Harry for a spin to Fiano this morning for coffee, and I have never seen him so chirpy!

Oops sorry, my man will never forgive me for getting this wrong!  However, I have just picked up the score on the Six Nations live website and Italy won 23-18……Fantastico.  The guys will be in a very good mood tonight!

Ciao Ragazzi

It is most unusual for me to be writing on a Sunday; why you may ask?  Well, Sunday is normally the day that my man and I go for a coffee in Fiano, then a walk in the hills and afterwards a trip to Montespertoli for an aperitivo.  However, my man, son-in-law and grandson are off to Roma to watch Italy play against Scotland in the Three Nations Rugby.  We did grab a coffee at 7.45 this morning at Fiano, so I managed to get my espresso fix.

Long Winter shadows

Long Winter shadows

Yes, we are a great rugby family.  My man played the game as a younger man, my son-in-law coaches the under 15’s in Siena and my grandson aged 12,  plays for team.  My little legs are under the weather at present so it is better the guys go alone.

So, here I am writing this blog and I intend updating it at least every Saturday.  So do log in every Sunday for an update.  I have a very exciting week ahead of me including interviews for various magazines!

Don’t forget to ‘like’ ‘My Father, The Assassin’ on your social medias.

Salute June x

The paperback version of  ‘My Father, The Assassin’ is selling fast, and this is just the soft launch!  It is also available on Kindle, so download now!

Thank you all you lovely people who have sent emails and messages on Facebook  & LinkedIn.  It is very important that you all ‘like’ the book and spread the word, as this will build my following.

Here in Tuscany we continue to enjoy sunshine, including Barty the cat.

Barty pino bacio 2012There is no question that living here in the Chianti Hills is very inspirational for writers, artists and musicians.  Even when it is cold, it is possible to enjoy an aperitivo in the garden.

I am cracking on with my next novel ‘The Bolivian Collection’ and am thoroughly enjoying it.  It is like going on yet another exciting adventure!  Watch this space…

Ciao june
