Welcome and Benvenuti to all my Lovely Followers around the world,

20180623_010019 copy-1.jpgNo, I don’t have a personal assistant.  I was asked this the other day and it got me thinking, perhaps I need one.  The thing is, I work out of a private studio and I like the privacy and quiet.  Having finally finished typing up the lyrics of  my repertoire for The Rock Chick Band’s concert in June, which has taken weeks due to my hectic schedule, I am beginning to wonder.  However, each song needs a lengthy period of concentration as I note every beat and bar, as well as the lyrics themselves.  So passing this to an assistant just would not work.  Then there’s the current book I’m writing, the Expat column and this weekly blog, it is all hands-on stuff.  Oh and the day job!  Enough already.  But life eeez good, life eeez now!  Foto P Finnigan – The Rock Chick Band.

download.jpgNow, I’m just preparing for one concert, whereas Vasco Rossi is about to embark on his ‘Vascononstoplive2019’ tour!  The Italians can’t get enough of this aging gravelly rocker.  Looking at his site, it was interesting to look behind the man and to check out his band and back up team.  He has two Americans in the band.  Matt Lang is a very good singer and guitarist; you will find him doing his own thing on You Tube.  And, Stef Burns is a really good rock guitarist.  Since 1998, Vasco has also been fortunate to have the support of Italian trumpeter, Frank Nemola; what an amazing sound he makes.  Whilst I am not a great fan of Vasco’s voice, his band is second to none.  Foto from Frank’s website.5d1053ff36ed7445ea28aa69d2f67fcb

So what next?  Ah, yes, my other love, which is?  Yes, you guessed it – Fashion and particularly the Rock look.  Now for me it’s important to stay feminine, I wear skirts that are mid or long, and my signature colour is black.  All one needs is a flash of colour and this can be found in a scarf or jewelry.  I also like biker jackets, as many of you know, so this simple outfit really caught my eye.  Personally, I do not wear trainers, it’s a me thing, so with this outfit it would be black flats or sandals.  Foto from PinInterest.

2019-04-05 09.02.06But what about the guys.  Have you noticed how men wearing shoes or trainers without socks, can look a little err unstylish?  This is not the case with Italian men, it suits them perfectly.  In fact I have yet to find a nation of men who can better the Italians for wearing their clothes well.  I recently read an article which declared the results of a world pole proving that Italian men were the best looking and the country was voted the most beautiful in the world!  Well, I’ve been here for fifteen years and am in no rush to leave!  Say no more!  Foto La Reppublica.

2019-04-07 13.01.47Meanwhile, back in our lovely Tuscan garden the Ash tree has taken centre stage.  This year its new leaves are looking particularly lovely.  It is a big tree and offers shade during the summer months and a nice vantage point for the views across the Chianti hills.  If you enlarge the picture you’ll be able to spot our English park bench hiding underneath the tree!  Today, Sunday, it is raining so we have not been able to get back out there to finish tidying the pots.  Also, our favourite plant lady was not in Certaldo’s market yesterday, so we will have to get the new plants next weekend.  The rain was needed of course, we’ve had weeks without it, and the countryside certainly looks a lot greener and fresher now.  And, it is the start of the tourist season so everything is looking good for the visitors. Anyway, enough of that.  Need to think about Sunday lunch.  Do you think my man could be persuaded to go out to eat?  We went out yesterday but for some strange reason, he seems to like my cooking!   I could pretend that I have forgotten where the kitchen is again, but I’ve tried that one time too often.  He has occasionally offered to cook, but I haven’t got the patience to supervise his painfully slow preparation in the kitchen!  He has to weigh everything, then line the ingredients up in little bowls even before he turns the oven on! Bless him…….Watch this space.

OK, let’s get the fotos uploaded and send this off to you.  Have a great week and do drop me a line.  Visit my website for all the news and my contact details.  My site

Welcome and Benvenuti to all my Lovely Followers around the World,

“I fancy one of those wide-brimmed Italian hats,” my man announced.  “You know, similar to the guy in the Moretti Beer adverts.” “You mean a Mafia style hat?”  I asked, just to be sure.  “Err, not exactly, but black and wide brimmed.” He mused.  So I set about researching Italian hats and found that Florence had a famous artisan hat-maker called Borsalino.  Now, like Italian hand-made shoes, you cannot buy a hand-crafted hat cheaply.  But what you get is a thing of beauty and of a very high quality and style.  So sometime in April, I might take him into Florence and visit Borsalino at Via Porta Rosso 40, 50123, Firenze. It will also be an excuse to have lunch at my favourite Gluten Free Ristorante, Quinoa.  website website

2018-03-25 08.59.08Meanwhile, back in the world of politics, there are certain romances going on.  Potential government members are wooing each other and celebrating any agreements with hugs and kisses in The House, and in full view of the cameras.  Mind you, this is Italy, the Italians don’t hide their feelings and are very touchy feely.  But I quite like this, and over the years have found myself becoming more and more that way myself.  However, my English man still prefers to shake hands with Italian men, which they find amusing once they have become good friends.  So back to the forming of a new government; well we are still waiting.  Foto La Repubblica.

2018-03-24 09.15.25On the same subject, a Roman Graffiti artist has painted a mural depicting the two potential leaders, passionately kissing.  You know, a bit like the Gorbachev picture.  Note that Luigi Di Maio, the vertically challenged one on the left, was nominated by the leader of the Five Star Movement for the leadership, as he himself (Grillo) has a police record and could not stand for the position of PM.  So nothing new there.  Matteo Salvini, the portly one on the right, who represents the Northern League and runners-up in the General Election, badly wants the leadership, so this romance may not last long!  Watch this space.  Foto La Repubblica

2018-03-24 09.12.26And what about Exhibitions in Florence?  Now here’s one I must go and see.  A fascinating historical photographic collection of ‘Women in Work’.  So, if you want proof of all the hard work women have successfully completed over the years, this exhibition is for you.  Here in the Chianti countryside, there is still an abundance of male farm workers, however, so many are imported and of course there are thousands of immigrants all desperate for work that again are mainly male.  It is easy to spot an elderly countrywoman, as she is likely be very bent over with gnarled hands.  In small holdings or allotments the elderly can still be seen growing their own fruit and veg, often under the rows of olive trees.  But times have changed, even here in the Tuscan countryside. 2018-03-24 09.03.38Now, I could not resist showing you this gorgeous feminine Rock Chick look, which I found in La Repubblica newspaper, whilst enjoying my morning coffee in Fiano.  As a rock singer myself, black is my signature colour, but I do love a bit of femininity thrown in too.  I’ve always strongly believed that if you are naturally feminine, you know, dresses, skirts and long hair, why hide it.  Fortunately, I was not a feminist in the sixties, I had no money and could not afford to burn my only bra!  But this did not stop me from being successful in business later on, despite the glass ceiling!  But that’s another story…..  Luisa Spagnoli website

2018-03-23 09.22.19The other thing I read in the paper was about the dangerous state of thousands of mature trees, particularly pines and famiglia trees, here in Tuscany.  They are falling over the roads and their roots are pushing up huge lumps in the tarmac!  It makes me very sad to see many of these trees destined for the chop, but needs must I guess.  Foto La Nazione

2018-03-26 08.02.32But never mind, lets end on a cheerful note.  The sun is shining and our spring/summer resident, Signore Cock Pheasant, is back making a racket so the girlies can hear him.  Last year he bedded down with a hen under our tangley  pomegranate trees, safe from the hunters in the countryside that surrounds our garden.  I hope he finds his amore soon.  Foto J Finnigan.

Well, must get on with the day job, amongst all the other things happening here.  Did you get an invite to my next Rock Concert in June?  No, then email me at june.finnigan@virgin.net

Have a great week.

Salute June x
